Digital Media Arts and Design I
provides an understanding of an array of skills and techniques. Students will use digital methods of imaging, a variety of techniques will be explored. Approaches to design include an understanding of how design can communicate, inform, promote, persuade, locate and motivate a consumer to act. Approaches to digital imaging include developing technical skills, considering point of view, artistic direction an photo editing. Throughout the course, production activities using a wide variety of media will focus on the function of digital visual arts for global communication. Importance will be placed on student growth in aesthetic awareness, composition, and individual creative expression.

Digital Media Arts and Design II is designed for students who have mastered the required skills in Digital Media Arts and Design I. It involves studio inquiry into the advanced nature of visual problem solving strategies and visual communication. This course stresses the ever-changing concepts and skills needed to work professionally in the visual communication field. Specific areas of application will be examined through the study of notable artists/designers in the field. Students will be encouraged to explore areas of special interest, and emphasis will be placed on independence, using industry standard techniques, strengthening computer skills and individual creative development.

Digital Media Arts and Design I & II are elective courses designed to meet the needs of all students through a flexible, and differentiated, curriculum. This course meets the NJ state requirements for the fine arts.

The evaluation of student work in both courses is oral and written. Students are required to complete several portfolio assessments, weekly critiques, homework and a cumulative assessment , which is part of and included in the calculation of the final semester grade.
