Using Turnitin.com

Generally, Turnitin.com is now integrated with Canvas.  In other words, when students submit an assignment through Canvas, it is automatically submitted to Turnitin and an originality report is generated for review by the student and the teacher.  If a teacher is using this integration, students do NOT need to create a separate Turnitin account.  It's all done already!

In some classes, some teachers may still have students submit to Turnitin separately. In these cases, the student will need to set up an account and join a class.  The directions are below:

Creating and User Profile and Adding a Class
First time users of Turnitin.com simply need to create a profile. A profile can be created using a class ID# and password created by the teacher. Watch the linked tutorial video for more information.

Joining a Class
Once a student has created a profile and joined a class, new classes can be joined using the class ID# and password provided by a teacher. A student's classes will all be available through his or her main page after login. Watch the linked tutorial video for more information.

Submitting a Paper
Students submit papers to Turnitin.com and an originality report is generated. Depending on the settings the teacher has established, students may be able to view this originality report to ensure that they are using sources ethically and striving for honest excellence. Teachers can also access the originality report and use Turnitin.com tools to provide feedback to the student. Watch the linked tutorial video for more information.
