Social Studies

The Social Studies program in PXL is the same content as the US History and AP US Government curriculum. However, we focus on HOW we are learning rather than strictly WHAT we are learning. We learn by doing, serving as junior historians and investigating big questions relevant to the field, such as

  • What does it mean to be an American in the 20th/21st centuries? How has that definition changed?
  • How have artists/writers interpreted America? How can they help us see multiple narratives of the American story?
  • What is the outside perception of America?
  • Does America hold itself to a higher standard?
  • What political and social beliefs guide our country?
  • How do different ideologies alter the American system of government?
  • Do checks and balances still exist?

We also focus on making modern day connections to themes throughout the curriculum. 10th grade classes will be offered dependent upon budget, enrollment, and student interest.
