Language Arts
We incorporate a Balanced Literacy approach to teaching language arts. Students participate in Guided Reading groups, Literature Circles, enjoy class read novels, and in the Spring, participate in The Battle of the Books! Students are exposed to all genres of writing including: nonfiction, personal narratives, biographies, and more. Students are taught how to write effective opening and closing sentences to paragraphs and specific grammatical skills are targeted.
This year, 3rd grade students will be introduced to a website called "RAZ Kids." This website contains online books at their assigned reading level. Here is a link to the website: http://www.raz-kids.com/main/Login.
