Good afternoon,
On Monday evening, the Board of Education will consider a motion to appoint Ms. Ann Clifton as the Director of Athletics. It is my pleasure to make this recommendation, Ms. Clifton emerged as the strongest candidate after an intense, five round interview process that included meetings with students and parents. Ms. Clifton will be present at Monday evening's meeting should you wish to meet her and offer her a welcome to our community. Mr. John Bydook has done a wonderful job serving as Interim Athletic Director and will also facilitate Ms. Clifton's transition into district.
Also on Monday evening, we will recognize our Wildwood Science Fair winners and welcome new Board member, Dr. Lauren McIntyre. After graduating Mountain Lakes High School, she graduated summa cum laude from Princeton and went on to receive her master's and Ph.D. in international relations from Johns Hopkins. This fall, the Mountain Lakes Board of Education will have four vacancies; (3) three year terms, and (1) one year unexpired term. While the Annual School Election is on November 6, 2018 petitions for these positions are due soon.
I would like invite anyone who is interested in considering school board membership to review the School Board Candidate kit from the New Jersey School Board's Association's website at https://www.njsba.org/about/membership/membership-school-board-members/school-board-candidacy/ . There, you will find a comprehensive overview of information about the role of a school board member, nominating petitions and legal qualifications.
Interested candidates must file a candidate petition in order to appear on the ballot. Petitions may be picked up at the Mountain Lakes Board of Education at 400 Boulevard and must be submitted to the county clerk by 4:00pm on Monday, July 30, 2018.
