Academic Team

Club / Activity: Academic Team

Advisor(s): Stephanie Baier ([email protected])

The mission of the Academic Team is to promote knowledge through competition and fun. The club participates in about 8-10 tournaments a year, which are all day events. Before each tournament the clubs will have 3 or 4 practices to prepare. For the 2018-2019 Team there are 24 members, with a core group of 20 who participate regularly. The club enters three teams of 4-5 players. Some of the Academic Team highlights and/or accomplishments from last year are:

1.  Varsity and JV team qualified for History Bowl Nationals
2.  Varsity team won the lower bracket at nationals
3.  Anita Shanker qualified for the national geography bee and finished 25th in the nation. This qualified her for the international geography bee in Berlin.

Mrs. Baier states that the goals for this year are to

“Qualify again for the history nationals, which we had two teams do at the October 28th tournament. Anita and Kanay also qualified for the national geography bee and Maimoonah qualified for the US History bee. We had three other members come close to qualifying and will have another chance in January, and our upperclassmen B team will have another chance to qualify as well so that we can bring three teams to nationals.”
