October 13, 2018 - PSAT/NMSQT Testing: Sign up through this link Total Registration: PSAT
October 20, 2018 - ACT Practice Test- A free full-length practice ACT sponsored by Kaplan Test Prep will be held at Mountain Lakes High School on Saturday, October 20th from 8 AM until 12 PM. A registration link will be emailed home...make sure to sign up!
December 2018 - All juniors will meet with the Counseling Department for a Naviance activity to help prepare them for the first Junior College Planning Meeting beginning in January.
January 10, 2019 - Junior Kickoff to College evening program. All juniors and their parents are expected to attend this program at 7:30pm in the auditorium. This presentation marks the beginning of your college process at Mountain Lakes High School. We will be distributing your junior packets and reviewing timelines, tips, guidelines, processes and procedures for navigating the college application process. Families with older children who have applied to college are still expected to attend this event because of all the changes to the college process. Some lucky students will also receive college swag!
January 11-February 8, 2019 - Counselors will begin having Junior College Planning Meetings following our "Kick Off" to College Program. The initial round of college meetings will take place from Jan. 11- Feb. 8 and will pick back up in April after course selection/scheduling is complete. Priority will be given for the early appointment slots to families who attend the Kickoff. You may begin scheduling these meetings, which should take place during one of your free periods, on Dec. 17 by speaking with Ms. Alcott in the school counseling office. As an additional resource, you can schedule an appointment with our college counselor, Mrs. Daniell, after your initial college-planning meeting with your school counselor.
March 2019, Date TBD - Free SAT/ACT Practice Test. This test will be administered March from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon at Mountain Lakes High School, date to be announced. This is a perfect opportunity for you to take an SAT/ACT without the worry of scores being released or posted and to see which exam is a better fit for you. A registration link will be emailed home...make sure to sign up!
April 2019- College planning meetings for those students who did not schedule an appointment during the first wave of meetings.
April 2019, Date TBD- Junior Parent Coffee at 8 am and 7 pm on Supporting Your Child Through the College Process.
May 2019- Junior Naviance Activity. 11th-grade students will receive instruction in how to implement Naviance in their college search.
July 2019, Dates TBD- College Essay Workshops. MLHS will offer 3-hour college essay workshops, during which faculty will help students brainstorm, write, and edit their college essays. To accommodate various schedules, students will have the option of attending a morning session from 9 am-11 am or an afternoon session from 12 pm- 3 pm on each date. Each session will be capped, so we encourage students to sign up for their preferred time slot early.
August 2018, Dates TBD- College Application Workshops. The Counseling Department will work with students to complete each section of the Common Application, to update Naviance, and to begin or complete brag sheets.The morning sessions will be held from 8 am-11, am and the afternoon sessions will be held from 12 pm-3 pm. Students are expected to attend their selected session both days. (Football players are asked to attend the morning sessions in order to accommodate their afternoon athletic schedule.).
